An extraction is the removal of a tooth or any piece of a tooth. An extraction may be necessary for various reasons including tooth fractures, orthodontics, deep cavities, and trauma. If a tooth is deemed unrestorable, meaning that it can’t be fixed with a filling, we often recommend extracting the tooth to prevent the spread of disease and infection. Both Drs. Hanson and Hoffman gained lots of experience extracting teeth in their hospital based residency programs. Patients who choose to have a tooth extracted are informed about the procedure prior to beginning and are made comfortable with anesthesia. Patients are also given post-operative instructions to remain comfortable throughout the healing process.
