Dental Hygiene Procedures

1. Routine Prophylaxis

  • A routine prophy is recommended for patients with healthy oral hygiene every 6 months. This procedure involves removing bacteria with specific dental instruments, polishing with fine pumice, and flossing. It helps to maintain oral health, preventing both cavities and bone loss.

2. Scaling and Root Planing

  • Scaling and root planing is a procedure that patients with bone loss and/or deep pocketing may need to reduce the pockets and stop the bone loss. It is a procedure generally done on patients with a diagnosis of periodontitis, or inflammation of the bone. Patients who require the procedure are given anesthesia locally for complete comfort throughout.
