TMJ (temporomandibular joint) therapy

Healthy joints are essential to stable, healthy teeth and jaw muscles. We are trained and skilled in diagnosing and treating TMJ dysfunction. The best way to treat TMJ pain and/or a clicking jaw joint is to control those factors that have contributed to problems. The causes for TMJ dysfunction, also known as temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) can be trauma to the area (recent or years prior), an unstable bite, developmental, genetic, arthritic, or pathological. It is of utmost importance that a comprehensive exam is completed of the jaw joint at least once a year in order to prevent damage to the joint and to have early detection of any possible abnormalities. If a diagnosis cannot be made by palpation or auscultation an MRI may be prescribed. Therapy for the jaw joint can include splint therapy, physical therapy, and possible surgical options.
